Caloosahatchee Mindfulness One Year Continuation Party

Nov 24th

5 pm to 7pm

Caloosahatchee Mindfulness is turning one year this month. What a wonderful and joyful year it has been.

It is good to notice and be grateful for all the gifts and opportunities that have come to us in this life, especially for the opportunity to walk this path of understanding, peace and lovingkindness with each other! We warmly invite members and your families/guests to join us at Caloosahatchee Mindfulness on Saturday, November 24th at 5 pm to 7pm to gather as one body to express our deep appreciation for what has been most meaningful to us over this past year. We will then enjoy a potluck dinner together.

As part of our aspiration to do no harm and help support the sustainability of life on our planet, we are planning this year for our dinner to be vegetarian. Please bring your favorite vegetarian foods. For some of us this will be an opportunity to explore some new recipes! Everyone is being asked to bring either an appetizer, main dish/side dish, salad or dessert to share. Please feel free to respond to this email register as soon as you can to let the planners know how many will be coming with you and what food you will bring to share. A sign up sheet will be posted at Caloosahatchee Mindfulness.

Ongoing Book Group

This summer, the Tuesday night sangha will be coming together to offer up a Summer Book Group, with all of us reading and discussing the same book. Starting in June, we will meet for sitting meditation, walking meditation, and then come together to discuss the book we are all reading at home together.

Our weekly discussions usually involve examples of how we’ve applied the mindfulness practices we study.  Even if you are not familiar with the reading, you are likely to find something of value in the discussion and be able to share from your own experiences if you choose.

The book we will be reading is Lovingkindness: The Revolutionary Art of Happiness by Sharon Salzberg. Please feel free to get a copy of the book at your connivence if you would like to participate.

We will begin our first discussion of the book on June 12th with chapter 1, and will continue with the next chapters on the continuing weeks.

Mindfulness: The Foundation of Wellbeing

Do you live in your thoughts about the past or worries about the future? Do your emotions often cause stress and confusion? Do you get carried away by dramas?

Introduction to Mindfulness and Meditation is a four-week course designed to support the practice of mindfulness, helping us develop the skills and attention to be fully present to our lives in the present moment, and to touch each moment deeply. It is intended for those new to mindfulness and meditation, as well as for those who want to review the basics and establish a more consistent daily mindfulness and meditation practice.

Learning Objectives

  • Systematically explore mindfulness of breathing, the body and physical sensations through sitting and walking meditation and the body scan practice.
  • Establish and maintain a daily meditation practice.
  • Practice mindful meditation to explore emotions, thoughts, and overall awareness.
  • Apply mindfulness to difficult emotions and thoughts to avoid getting caught up in dramas.
  • Cultivate daily meditation and mindfulness practices so that mindfulness becomes and integral part of your daily life.
