Vesak Day Celebration Please join us on Tuesday, May 29th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm for a celebration of the Buddha 's birthday, also called Vesak. We will be holding a ceremony that combines elements of the Buddha's Birthday Ceremony and the Tea Ceremony, both from the Plum Village tradition. As part of the celebration we will be sharing tea and a birthday cake. Christopher Lee Nguyen BA received his BA in Communication from FGCU. He has been practicing mindfulness meditation with the Florida Community of Mindfulness since 2014. In 2015, he helped start and facilitate Wake Up Southwest Florida, an active global community of young mindfulness practitioners, inspired by the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh. In 2016, he became an aspirant in Thich Nhat Hanh's Order of Interbeing. He also currently holds the rank of Sho-dan (black belt) in the Shito-Ryu Karate-Do. Mary Robinson MA, MS, LMFT received her graduate degrees from Florida State University and the University of South Florida. A licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Mary has completed a foundational training program for professionals in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) through the University of Massachusetts Medical School Center for Mindfulness. Mindfulness-based stress reduction Classes coming in January & February Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) is a program that incorporates mindfulness to assist people with pain and a range of conditions and life issues that were initially difficult to treat in a hospital setting. Developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in the 1970s by Professor Jon Kabat-Zinn, MBSR uses a combination of mindfulness meditation, body awareness, and yoga to help people become more mindful. The 8-week course is designed to reduce stress, facilitate relaxation and promote physical health and well-being. Would you like to learn and practice skills that will help you with the challenges and demands of everyday life and that will bring more balance to your life in the process? Attend the FREE orientation session for the eight-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course that begins in January, 2018.
